The 2011 Cliff Hanger Hill Climb saw the crowning of a new King !The Wairarapa weather was typically scorching for most of the weekend, which resulted in a little tar, bleed in some areas of the road, however this did not deter the 33 entrants at all who tested themselves and their machines against the hill over the two-day event.
In a somewhat unanticipated result and just his second year at the Cliffhanger, Roger Cathro from Lower Hutt, riding a 2009 Yamaha R1 steadily dropped his course times throughout the weekend to finish with 2minutes 14:145s. The outgoing King, Drew Mair was a little outgunned on his 1996 Suzuki RF900, and also had issues with grip, seeing him plateau at 2:18:589s…………
Drew did not seem too disappointed though, and appeared to be having a ball with his brother Jimmy in their sidecar entry.
After a slow start, Luke Mair (it’s a Mair fest !) took out the “up to 600cc cliffhanger class” on his Kawasaki 2005 ZXR600R with 2:20:157s.
